Woman Reports Losing $10,000 Ring at Wilmette Shopping Center

Lost Ring

An Evanston woman told Wilmette police on Nov. 28 that she had lost a platinum and diamond ring worth $10,000 while shopping at several Wilmette retailers located in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue five to six months earlier.

The woman said she recalled wearing the band while shopping at three Edens Plaza stores during May or June, and, according to the police report, she said she noticed the ring missing when she returned home.

The woman told police she could not recall the specific date when she lost the ring, but said she would examine her credit card statements to pinpoint the day.

Wilmette police reported that the department’s property room contained no ring matching the provided description.

Suspicious Incident

A Wilmette woman living in the 200 block of Vista Court told police that two men claiming to be from a chimney repair company showed up to her door and entered her home at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 26. The woman told police the men said that her chimney needed relining and that they would show her why if she got them a pot of boiling water, police reported.

According to the woman, the men told her they had been referred to her by another man who had cleaned her gutters a day earlier, police reported. However, the woman told police she became uncomfortable with how the men were acting and asked them to leave.

The men reportedly told the woman they would come back later in the day, but the two never returned. Police reported contacting the gutter cleaner, who said he had not referred any workers to the woman’s home. The woman told police the two men were driving a green vehicle with yellow writing on the side.

Criminal Damage

Someone cut the wiring to a set of Christmas lights lining the walkway of a home located in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue sometime between 12:15 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Dec. 2.

Auto Burglary

Two vehicles were burglarized in the 2000 block of Kenilworth Avenue during the early morning hours of Dec. 2. In one incident, a $250 iPod and $45 cash was stolen, and in the other, approximately $15 in loose change was taken. Both victims said they did not see anything suspicious during the night hours, but one noticed the tailgate door to her neighbor’s car was open on the following morning.

Identity Theft

A Wilmette woman told police that someone may have attempted to use a credit card bearing her name at an Oakbrook retailer on Nov. 28. The woman told police the retailer had contacted her to inform her someone had attempted to use a temporary store credit card with her name on it. The employee reportedly told the woman that store security has wrote down a description of the suspects, as well as their license plate number.

Suspended Driver’s License

Kristi V. Phunsing, 51, of the 3800 block of North Kimball Court, Chicago, was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license after she was stopped for a traffic offense in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue at 12:42 a.m. on Dec. 2.
