Zawadzki Sentenced to 10 Years in Deadly DUI Crash

Chicago man must serve 8 years before becoming eligible for parole in a 2010 accident that killed 2.

Szymon Zawadzki was sentenced to 10 years in jail a week after he pleaded guilty to a drunken driving accident that left two passengers dead in June, according to a statement from Wilmette police on Friday.

The 20-year-old Chicago resident entered his plea on March 18 at the Cook County courthouse in Skokie. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence that resulted in the deadly crash that also left one person injured, police reported.

Zawadzki also received a three-year sentence for personal injury in a traffic crash. It will run concurrent with the jail time for the drunken driving charge.

Veronica Rojas, 18, and Natalie Stygar, 17, were killed in the June 28 accident. Meesha Rashedi, one of three other passengers, suffered a broken arm in the crash.

Zawadzki must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. He is also required to pay a fine because of the fatal crash, according to police.

Zawadki had been in county lockup on $2 million bond since the crash, which occurred near Wilmette Harbor.
