Kenilworth Road Resurfacing Project Commences

No driveways will be affected by the repaving, which starts Wednesday.

Kenilworth residents will be facing some traffic delays on several roads, as the Village commences its 2011 Road Resurfacing Program Wednesday.

The following roadways are being revamped by Chicagoland Paving Inc.:

  • Roger Avenue from Ridge Road to Brier Street
  • Cummings Avenue from Ridge Road to Brier Street
  • Roslyn Road from Melrose Avenue to Cumberland Avenue
  • Warwick Road from Cumberland Avenue to Essex Road
  • In conjunction with the Village of Winnetka, Essex Road from Cumberland Avenue to Winnetka Avenue

"It's probably been over 20 years since they were last resurfaced," said Don Betke, a public works operator, "We usually do pothole fillings as a continual thing, and the spot hole repair where it's needed, but they're in a position where that isn't enough." Instead of the lighter, continual renovations, the roads need to be grinded down and catch basins need to be repaired, Betke said.

Meanwhile drivers can expect some delays as Roger Avenue, Cummings Avenue, Warwick Road, Roslyn Road and Essex Road will be accessible to local traffic only throughout the construction process. However Betke assured that most streets should be opened for residents to get in their driveways. Residents will be notified if conditions prove otherwise, he added.

And while the construction is more intense than usual, it isn't a long process, he said. Two projects that required an entire rebuild on Ivy Court and Lester Road were started shortly after school ended in June. In those instances, Betke said, new curbs, new sidewalks and a digout have been required.

"We're just adding a new top surface; even with bad weather we wouldn't need more than a week, at most, to do all these repairs."
