The following is a roundup of the Village of Wilmette's first October trustee meeting.

A Commonwealth Toward Improving ComEd

It's as clear as  they printed it on.

Representatives from 41 north suburban municipalities aren't happy with ComEd's service in 2011, so they're recommending to the state legislature significant “legislative and regulatory actions needed to ensure ComEd...is up to the task during future outage situations.”

During the meeting Canning reflected what he stated in a recent release:

“These recommendations are common sense measures that should already be in place. Addressing these issues must be ComEd's highest priority. Failure to do so in future outage events places the health, safety and welfare of our residents at risk.”

Property Purchase

In 2010 the village was approached by the owner of a property at 1225 Central Ave., commonly called "the mid-central printing site" by village officials.

After months of negotiations, the council unanimously approved the purchase of the property for $630,000.

"We believe when consilidated with the other two parcels owned by the village on that block, we will provide an exciting development opportunity," Canning continued, "for any developer that is willing to pursue the goals and policies of the recently adopted ."

New Rep Recommendation

Due to a recent opening on the Village Plan Commission, Jonathan Garrett, who moved to Wilmette from Arizona in 2006, was recommended for the position. Garrett and his wife owned a real-estate company in Arizona, which they sold prior to moving.
