Olvany To Fill Wilmette Park Board Vacancy

John J. Olvany was named the Park District's newest commissioner Monday evening.

The Wilmette Park District named John J. Olvany as its newest board commissioner during a special meeting Monday evening.

Olvany's appointment is effective immediately, and he "will be sworn in at the Board’s next regular meeting on Sept. 12," according to a statement from the Park District. The 21-year Wilmette resident has served on the boards of the Wilmette Baseball and the Wilmette Hockey Assocations.

“The talent and breadth of experience presented by our applicants was outstanding, but unfortunately we had only one vacancy to fill,” said Board President James L. Brault in the release. “The willingness of our residents to generously step up and volunteer their time to serve on a public board was truly gratifying.”

Olvany's appointment expires April 2013, at which time Wilmette voters will be allowed to elect a candidate.
