Public Comment Meeting Today for Kenilworth Streetscape Plan

The village received a $75,000 grant to provide a foundation for future infrastructure planning in Kenilworth's commercial areas and the Green Bay Road Corridor.

Kenilworth is launching a full-fledged public engagement effort as the Village moves forward with the next phase of the Green Bay Road Corridor Transportation and Streetscape Plan, which is primarily funded by a $75,000 planning grant from the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). The Village has been working with planning consultants at Houseal Lavigne Associates to move into the next phases of the grant and planning process. Houseal Lavigne Associates is the same firm that helped create Kenilworth’s first comprehensive plan in 2008.

On Nov.13, the Village released to the public an interactive project website that includes several features that provide Kenilworth residents and business owner’s tools to express their vision, values, concerns, and ideas for the future of the Green Bay Road corridor. This website provides an open forum where the community can provide input on traffic operations, bicycle and pedestrian access, and visual preferences for the streetscape developments they would like to see in the business district. The interactive website includes a questionnaire for users to identify priorities, a visual preference slideshow that presents various physical design elements and allows users to give their opinions on each slide, and a community mapping tool that allows users to highlight issues and opportunities along the Green Bay Road corridor.

The interactive project website will be available throughout the planning process, which is expected to continue until May, and is available by clicking the “Green Bay Road Corridor Transportation & Streetscape Plan Interactive Project Website” link on the Village’s website.

In addition to the interactive project website, there are two upcoming community planning workshop sessions for the Green Bay Road Corridor Transportation & Streetscape Plan. The first community planning workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Kenilworth Club.

This planning workshop will allow residents to drop in at their convenience throughout the day or evening and provide their input on the future of the Green Bay Road corridor. Planning experts from the Houseal Lavigne Associates team will be in attendance, as well as officials from the Village. A summary presentation at 7:00 p.m. will recap the concerns and ideas raised by participants throughout the event.

The second community planning workshop is anticipated to be held in March 2013.

The purpose of the Green Bay Road Corridor Transportation & Streetscape Plan is to present a realistic vision and plan to improve Kenilworth’s business district for years to come by serving as a foundation for future infrastructure planning, land use and development decision-making, urban design, streetscape and wayfinding improvement, and traffic and transit circulation enhancements. The project will look at the movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists through the Green Bay Road Corridor and their interface with train and bus lines.
