Wilmette’s Revised Zoning Ordinance Ready for Public Review

The first public hearing will be held on July 16.

The final draft of Wilmette’s revamped zoning ordinance is ready for public review after almost six years of work by village staff, consultants, elected and appointed officials--it’s been more than 20 years since the zoning ordinance has been substantially changed, Wilmette Life reported.

The Ad Hoc Zoning Ordinance Review Committee will review the administrative articles of the new ordinance on July 16 and will review the non-single family section of the new ordinance on July 22; both public hearings will start at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Village Hall, according to the village’s website.

Public hearings to review single-family zoning and commercial and related articles are tentatively scheduled for September.

The last time Wilmette’s zoning ordinance was updated was in 1990 and “things like lot area and floor-area ratio didn’t exist for single family homes and now that’s the currency that everyone uses,” Lisa Roberts, assistant director of community development for the village told the newspaper.
