Sara in Singapore: Tokyo's Narita Airport

An Evanstonian and Loyola Academy graduate begins her journey to Singapore.

After moseying around the Narita airport for around 20 mintues, I find myself through security in no time at all and waiting at my gate with time to kill. This airport is so quiet! And in pristine condition might I add.

Japan is so gorgeous. Absolutely blows my mind away that people call her their home. Japan is so lush and flourishing with color. Its 3 p.m. here. Not sure what time it is back in Chicago, but I am more awake than I know I should be. My more than 12 hour flight from Chicago to Japan was horrendous. Now that I've finally stood up and am off the plane, it seems as though the plane ride wasn't too bad at all. But then again while on the flight, squished between two sweaty adolescent boys, I thought we'd never land. But who cares! Im in Japan. I'M IN JAPAN!!! Once I finished posting this, I am going to explore what Narita airport has to offer. I remember being here during a layover when my mom, brother and I went to Singapore for my 16th birthday. My brother bought some famous japanese drink and then sat and watch wrestling with a group of old local men. What I really want though, is some water or something. Maybe some more green tea. I feel like im in need of purifying my body of toxins or something. I want to do some kind of good for my body since I just sat, slept and read for over 12 hours on a flight and ate shit food. I cannot get over how beautiful Japan is. There is so much honor, history, tradition, beauty, serenity and integrity. I feel like blessed to be here. I wonder if the southern business man sitting across from me on him iphone and sipping his coke, really is appreciating this like i am. Maybe he's been here a dozen times before and is just counting the minutes till his next connecting flight. Americans look so silly here. We look so dumb walking around the airport. I don't feel like im out of place, but I probably look that way to other people. I wish so badly that I had the time to go out and explore. I keep staring out the window at my gate just trying to imagine what it looks like out there. Its 1:58 a.m. back in Chicago but I'm in Japan for god's sake!!

It's 70 degree, but extremely humid. As I was walking around, I stopped at a little store. I decided to buy some Japanese Lemon water. Maybe its because I decided to purchase something, or its because they work at an airport store, but man oh man! American men could definitely learn and thing or two from Japenese men. Not only are they attractive, but they are so polite, respectful and sweet. The airport is so steamy. Like I am sure that the humidity in here exceeds the humidity outside. Our plane is approaching the gate. I am crossing my fingers that this flight doesnt feel as long as my previous one. And god, please let it be more comfortable. I cant wait to get to Singapore. Nine hours to go. I'm hoping the taxi I get ends up smelling like the green gelatinous stuff my mom is obsessed with- I'll figure out what its called and let everyone know. But that smell definitely brings my back to my childhood.
