Dr. Robert Higgins Honored with Distinguished Citizen Award

The Professor and Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Robert Higgins, will be honored by the District 39 Educational Foundation.

Dr. Robert Higgins, Wilmette resident, the John H. and Mildred Lumley Medical Research Chair, Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center at Ohio State University, will be honored by the District 39 Educational Foundation with a Distinguished Citizen Award. 

Higgins will be honored in an award ceremony and reception on Thurs. April 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette.

Dr. Higgins is a heart and lung transplant surgeon and has written over 100 per-reviewed papers and book chapters, a press release from the foundation states

Dr. Higgins also coaches youth football, baseball and lacrosse. He is a father of students in the District 39 school system and has lectured in biology labs at the schools. Dr. Higgins is married to Molly and they have three children — John, Grace and Grant. 

"Bob is married to Molly and they have three children, John, Grace and Grant," a release from the district said. "Bob Higgins is a role model for our students and a champion for our community at large. It is an honor and privilege to call this leader our neighbor."

The District 39 Educational Foundation is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that raises funds for projects that expand, enrich, and complement educational opportunities for the students, staff and community in District 39.
