Summer Teen Creative Writing Camp

Do you love to write? Do you spend your free time scribbling in notebooks, scratching poems in the margins of your math homework, and daydreaming about stories and characters? Dream of writing a best selling novel some day? Then this workshop is for you — guaranteed to get you inspired and writing all summer long!

In this week-long Creative Writing Camp, you’ll write without worrying about grades or deadlines, create new work and polish existing pages, and work closely with professional writers who will help to guide your process and answer any questions you have about writing, publishing, living the writing life, and more.

At the end of the week, you’ll also be published on StoryStudio’s online magazine, Cooler by the Lake. Best of all, you’ll get to meet other teenage writers like yourself who are serious and excited about their stories!

The week will have several components:

• Writing: Writing prompts to spark your imagination, help you break through blocks, and learn to reach new heights of creativity.

• Workshopping: We’ll share our work and give each other feedback on what’s working well and what opportunities we can find in each piece (whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or theatre). We’ll talk about where we can extend scenes and dialogue to push the narrative, how word choice can affect the piece as a whole, how to spice up language and how to find—and trust—your own amazing original voice.

• Electives: Each day there will be time set aside for electives such as graphic novel, performance poetry, monologues, and more.

• Publishing: Students will be invited to publish a piece on Cooler by the Lake, StoryStudio’s online magazine.

Who Should Attend: This Teen Camp is open to students in two age groups: grades 6-8, and grades 9-10. (Juniors or seniors in high school are welcome to join us. Call us and we talk about options.)
