Meet Darik Williams, WJHS New Asst. Principal

Williams has previously taught in Denver and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Want to get to know the three new assistant principals working at District 39 schools?

Wilmette-Kenilworth Patch struck up an e-conversation with the incoming staffers. First one up for introduction is Darik Williams, who hails most recently from Denver and looks forward to adding to D39's excellence.

What was your background before becoming a District 39 Assistant Principal?

Most recently, I was an Assistant Principal at a K-8 magnet school for academically advanced students in Denver, Colorado. Prior to working as an administrator, I have experience serving as an intermediate grades teacher in Colorado, California and Georgia. In addition to my 11 years of formal experience as an educator, I have served as a consultant with state educational agencies and departments.

What are you excited to learn from fellow staff and students in your new role?

District 39 has a reputation of excellence and innovation. I am looking forward to collaborating with the educational professionals of the district to meet the diverse needs of the students. Additionally, the district has a tremendous student population with a great deal of talent and potential, and I am thrilled to work with and learn from the students in order to equip them with the necessary tools to excel.

How do you hope to challenge the students and further the academic success at your respective schools?

As I join the district, I hope to capitalize on the strengths and progress District 39 has shown thus far, while also bringing my unique expertise and experience to the benefit of the students of Wilmette Junior High School specifically and to the district as a whole. Together, I will work with the district to promote a culture of excellence for both students and staff.

What has been one of your favorite moments in your teaching career?

Having the opportunity to open a school in the San Francisco Bay Area was one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career.  Transitioning a school from theory to reality was both challenging and exciting, and I feel the experience helped shape the educational leader I am today.
