New Trier District 203 Hires New Assistant Superintendent
Cheryl Witham will replace retiring Associate Superintendent Donald Goers at New Trier Township High School District 203.
New Trier Township High School District 203 has hired Cheryl Witham as the new assistant superintendent for finance and operations, replacing Donald Goers who is retiring after 15 years with the district, according to a press release.
Witham is currently Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations at Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 and will start work at New Trier this summer. The New Trier Board of Education approved her appointment Tuesday.

“Cheryl impressed us with her range of experiences inside and outside of school district business offices, her knowledge of the factors that impact school finance, her wise management of resources in her current district, and her warm and engaging personality,” Dr. Linda Yonke, District 203 Superintendent, said in a statement. “She brings the right combination of financial knowledge and business experience to the job, along with a commitment to integrity and high standards.”
In Witham’s new role, she will serve as the chief financial and operation officer for District 203, managing all business and operational services, overseeing insurance, transportation, food service and purchasing programs, as well as representing the district as the chief negotiator in bargaining with employee associations.

Witham began her tenure at District 200 in 2002. At that time, the district had almost no reserves and had just passed a referendum. During Witham’s tenure, OPRFHS has created a more transparent, participatory budget process; undertaken decades of deferred maintenance; and engaged in long-term facilities planning to accommodate a significant increase in enrollment projected over the next decade. Witham also has overseen more than $6.2 million in cost-savings initiatives. District 200 is now in very stable financial condition.
“I’ve really enjoyed my nearly 11 years with the District,” Witham said. “I’ve learned a great deal during that time, and I look forward to the new and different challenges at New Trier.”
