New Trier hosted seven of its 10 honorees for the school's first alumni award ceremony Tuesday evening.

Parents, friends and members of the community gathered Tuesday night at the Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield to honor 10 former New Trier High School alumni at the school's first Alumni Achievement Awards dinner.

Honorees included former Playboy Enterprises CEO and philanthropist Christie Hefner, former Nielsen Company CEO and philanthropist Arthur C. Nielsen Jr., Nobel Prize-winning physicist Jack Steinberger, former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Emmy-nominated actor Rainn Wilson, cancer researcher Todd Golub, Illinois Holocaust Museum founder Sam Harris, modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin, blindness researcher and adventurer Geoffrey Tabin and former U.S. Ambassador Richard Williamson.

Approximately 90 alumni were nominated and a selection committee of local teachers, administrators and members of the community chose the 10 honorees. The honored alumni will also meet with New Trier students throughout the week to share stories and answer questions.
