New Trier Mourns Sarah McCausland, '13 Graduate

Social workers will be available this week for students. McCausland died after being hit by a car while walking with friends near Bard College, where she was a freshman.

The following is a statement from New Trier High School on Sarah McCausland, a 19-year-old graduate who was killed this weekend by a hit-and-run driver while she was walking with friends near Bard College, where she was a freshman:

The New Trier High School community mourns the tragic death of 2013 graduate Sarah McCausland. Sarah was very involved in the performing arts at New Trier, and she shared her gifts in the choral, orchestra, and theatre programs. Sarah also was part of a group of talented New Trier music students who traveled to Australia and performed at the Sydney Opera House in 2012.

“Sarah was passionate about music, and she shared that passion and joy with her fellow students and teachers in so many of our performing groups,” said Superintendent Linda Yonke. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends.”

Social workers will be available throughout the week for any students struggling with this news. The thoughts of the entire New Trier community are with Sarah’s family and friends during this difficult time.
