New Trier Principal Timothy Dohrer to Resign

Dr. Timothy Dohrer, Winnetka Campus Principal since 2009, will leave at the end of June to take a new position at Northwestern University.

After serving New Trier High School for 23 years, Dr. Timothy Dohrer, Winnetka Campus Principal since 2009, will be resigning at the end of June to take a new position at Northwestern University, according to a press release.

District 203 Board of Education approved Dohrer’s resignation Tuesday night, effective July 1 and will begin a search for his replacement.

“Tim has been a tireless supporter of New Trier and a valuable leader in a number of roles for more than 20 years,” Dr. Linda Yonke, District 203 Superintendent, said in a statement. “We will miss his leadership, his enthusiasm, and his devotion to the school. While his departure is a loss to New Trier, it is a gain to the teaching profession as he helps train the next generation of teachers at Northwestern University.”

“No matter where I go, I will always be a Trevian at heart,” Dohrer said in a statement. “New Trier has been my home for almost my entire career in education, and I appreciate the opportunities the school has given me to grow as an educator and a leader. The faculty and staff at New Trier are truly amazing, and I will carry the lessons they have taught me as I work with teachers just starting out in the classroom.”

Dohrer started his New Trier career in 1990 as an English teacher. He was the English Department Coordinator at the freshman Northfield Campus between 2000 and 2006. He later served as Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator and took on additional research-based roles for the District. He was appointed as Winnetka Campus Principal in 2009, after serving as Interim Principal the previous school year.
