New Trier School Board Oks Extra Costs For Proposed Baseball Net System

District 203 school board approved landscaping and fencing costs for a proposed 50-foot-tall netting system at Duke Childs Field, Chicago Tribune reports.

New Trier Township High School District 203 board recently approved $36,000 in extra landscaping and fencing costs for a proposed baseball net system at Duke Childs Field to prevent baseballs from flying onto Willow Road, Chicago Tribune reported.

Winnetka’s Village Council is expected to vote on the proposal at its June 18 meeting, the newspaper reported.

Some Winnetka residents raised concerns that the system could be an eyesore--the system extend a total of 160 feet in length, 100 feet of it is parallel to Willow Road and 60 feet of it is behind the home plate.

In May, Winnetka Zoning Board of Appeals voted in favor of allowing the high school to put up a 50-foot netting system around a baseball backstop at the northwest corner of Hibbard and Willow roads.
