New Trier Students Row for World Record

New Trier High School students Hunter Johnson and Kenny Michalec also raised $13,600 for Friends of the Orphans.

New Trier High School students Kenny Michalec and Hunter Johnson recently rowed for 30 hours and 30 minutes on an indoor rower, attempting to break the world record by two hours and 12 minutes, according to AthleticsForACause.org.

The duo hope to have their record made official using a video, a code from their rowing machine and testimony from several rowing teammates who witnessed the event, Winnetka Talk reported.

Michalec and Johnson have become the world record holders for U19 Lightweight Longest Continual Row and have raised $13,568 so far for Friends of the Orphans through the event, according to the website.

Michalec says it was pretty challenging at the end but “we had so many friends over and so much support,” the New Trier High School student told the newspaper.
