Loyola Sports Roundup: Soccer Completes Undefeated Regular Season

Both water polo teams won sectional championships as did the girls track team.

Girls Track and Field: After capturing the GCAC Championships by a mere one point over St. Ignatius, on its home track.

The Ramblers had a record-setting day, winning a sectional championship for the first time in school history and sending the most athletes to the state championships.

“I’m most excited for our seniors,” Loyola coach ChrisJon Simon said.

Seven individuals and all four relay teams qualified for next weekend’s state championships. Rachel Price and Jackie McDonnell finished 1-2 in the 800 and also were part of the Ramblers’ first-place 4x800 relay team.

Girls Soccer: The Ramblers (20-0-3) concluded an undefeated regular season with a 3-1 victory over Maine South on May 8. Annie Manganero, Laura Gardner and Maddy Hartmann all scored for the Ramblers. Their 20 wins is a new school record.

Loyola also beat Warren, 2-0, on May 6

Boys Track and Field: Loyola dominated the long-distance races at the John Davis Titan Invite, posting individual wins in the 1600 and 3200. Mac Ford beat out a competitive field in the 1600 with a time of 4:20.8 while Todd Ford ran an impressive 9:35.4 in the 3200.

Mac Ford won the 3200 (9:39.2) at the Catholic League Championships while Tim Norwood took home the triple jump title (42-5). As a team, Loyola finished second behind Brother Rice.

Loyola will prepare for this week’s sectional championships at Niles West on Thursday.

Boys Tennis: Loyola captured the Chicago Catholic League team championship last weekend. The Ramblers (40 points) beat out a 10-team field, including St. Ignatius (34) and Fenwick (29).

Loyola swept the individual and doubles championships. Lawson Barter (No. 1 singles), Anthony Arocho (No. 2 singles) and Jack Weisenberger (No. 3 singles) were the individual champions for the Ramblers. Chris Kane and Franco Capitinini combined to win the No. 1 doubles while Riley Jacobs and Ryan Donohue took home the No. 2 doubles title.

Boys Volleyball: Loyola captured the Evanston Spring Fling tournament this weekend, defeating Notre Dame in the championship game 25-18, 27-25. Loyola handled Evanston 25-16, 25-18 in the semi-finals.

The Ramblers defeated St. Charles North, Lincoln Park and Zion-Benton to get to the championship bracket on Saturday.

Girls and Boys Water Polo: Loyola swept New Trier in both sectional championship games on Saturday at Glenbrook North.
