Trevian Girls Roundup: Fall Teams Make Final Strides Towards Playoffs
Cross-Country won another team title while the golf team finished second at the Central Suburban League championships.
Tennis: New Trier swept a very competitive Lake Forest quad match on Oct. 1, garnering three separate 3-2 victories over Lake Forest, Deerfield and Hinsdale Central. At the No. 1 singles spot, Carol Finke went 2-1 while Anna Kaplan was undefeated in her two appearances at the No. 2 singles position. The doubles team of Lauren Van Solkema and Kirstie Woodbury was undefeated in the No. 3 doubles spot and did not drop a set.
The Trevians also swept Evanston 7-0 in a Central Suburban League match earlier last week.

Golf: New Trier took its final swings before the playoffs, finishing second in the John Macek Memorial Tournament last weekend. Behind Elizabeth Szokol’s 76, New Trier shot a combined 324, placing 13 shots behind champion Prospect.
Szokol’s 76 put her in a tie for first with Allison Walsh and Christine Garmoe of Prospect, but Walsh won in a sudden-death playoff. Freshman Lois Suh and Callie Nelson both shot 81 to finish in a tie for seventh place.

The Trevians finished second in the CSL championships, shooting 327, 10 strokes behind champion Highland Park. Szokol won the individual title by shooting 76 at Sunset Valley Golf Course.
Cross-Country: Not even a different racing format could stop New Trier from winning yet another cross country invitational. The Wheaton North Falcon Classic Invitational featured seven flights, pitting one runner from each team with no teammates to rely on.
The Trevians won five of the seven races, getting victories from Jessica Ackerman (No. 2), Mimi Smith (No. 3), Julia Jackson (No. 4) Molly Krueger (No. 5) and Kathleen Keene (No. 6). Courtney Ackerman (No. 1) and Anna Berglund (No. 7) both finished in fifth place.
That gave the Trevians 15 team points, beating out Glenbard West (35), Lake Park (36), Wheaton Warrenville South (38) for the championship.
Volleyball: New Trier lost a rare match last week, falling to Lake Forest 25-18, 26-24. The Trevians (15-4, 5-0 Central Suburban League South) defeated Maine South 25-12, 25-20 in a CSL matchup earlier in the week.
