  • Why Go?: Meetings of a support group for caregivers of children with mental illnesses, diagnosed or undiagnosed, take place in the Small Meeting Room from 9:30-11:00.  The sessions are facilitated by a volunteer from NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  For information, call 847-716-2252 or visit the NAMI website at www.namiccns.org.

  • Why Go?: There are various ways to turn kitchen scraps and yard waste into valuable soil. Eran Rhodes from Sacred Earth Edible Landscaping Initiatives will explain how easy it is to enrich your gardens while keeping material out of the landfills.

  • Where: 609 Ridge Rd, Wilmette
  •  Why Go?: The Wilmette Historical Museum invites the community to a self-guided tour of five excellent examples of new homes built using “green” technology. Each home will have a builder or contractor on-site to describe the specific element of “green” technology used in the home and will provide information and materials. Solar panels, foam insulation, and green roofing systems are some of the technologies that will be included. Participants will receive a map, which serves as a ticket, a North Face backpack, binder and informational materials. Although bicycles are encouraged for this tour, they are not required.

  • When: Sunday, June 17, 2012, 2:30 pm
  • Where: 1122 Central Ave, Wilmette
  • Why Go?: British composer Benjamin Britten described his opera Peter Grimes as “the struggle of the individual against the masses. The more vicious the society, the more vicious the individual.” Set in a drab fishing village, Peter Grimes tells the story of a man accused by his neighbors of committing unspeakable crimes, and how their actions ripple further and further. Britten’s incredible score includes the Four Sea Interludes, instrumental music between scenes that perfectly express the mystery and pain at the heart of this opera.Conducted by Robin TicciatiDirected by Richard JonesStarring John Graham-Hall, Susan Gritton, Christopher Purves and Felicity Palmer.
