Temple Jeremiah continues its Community-Supported Agriculture program -- this year with Sandhill Family Farms

In furtherance of its active participation in the GreenFaith Certification Program, which is part of the nation’s first interfaith environmental certification process for houses of worship, Temple Jeremiah continues its highly successful farm share program with its new partners at Sandhill Family Farms.  Sandhill Family Farms (www.sandhillfamilyfarms.com) is a cooperation between two family-owned farms, one in Grayslake, Ill. and the other in Brodhead, Wisc.

Due to the success of last year’s farm share program, Temple Jeremiah is pleased to announce that in addition to members of Temple Jeremiah, this wonderful opportunity is now available to anyone in the surrounding communities who wishes to participate.  Choices have also increased this year, as participants can choose from among vegetable, fruit, dairy, and egg shares.

According to Rabbi Emily Segal, who has led Temple Jeremiah’s GreenFaith initiative, “Participants are able to eat healthier, delicious, nutrient-filled fruits and vegetables ripened on the plant, as well as fresh dairy and eggs from humanely cared for animals. Additionally, participants will reduce their carbon footprint, support a cleaner environment, and support a local farm that follows ethical values and sustainable, organic practices.”

The GreenFaith program is designed to help churches, synagogues, mosques and temples earn recognition as environmental leaders by carrying out over two dozen environmental activities over two years.
