The Wilmette Rotary Club gathered 12,000 books for needy inner-city schools. For the eighth consecutive year, these book drives have fostered a love of reading among thousands of pre-school through eight grade students.
This year's donations came from Wilmette-area administrators, teachers and students. Many books came from the , Skokie and Lake Bluff Public Libraries and from , Romona, Harper and elementary schools, , , Avoca, , St. Francis Xavier and St. Athanasius School in Evanston. Books are being delivered to schools in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods.
This is a major annual project of the Wilmette Rotary Club.
“Book donations help inner-city schools make reading a priority," said chair Jackie Granat. "As a result, many students perform better in class, gain reading levels, advance in high school and aim for college.”
