School is almost out. Have you found the right summer camp for your child? For this sometimes trying endeavor, many North Shore residents seek the expertise of "The Camp Lady," Enid Grabiner, of Northbrook, according to a story in Crain's Chicago Business. This is the team’s first trip to the state tournament since 2004.
New Trier High School’s boys water polo team won against Loyola Academy 11-9 at the sectional final Saturday. The Trevians will head to the state tournament, the first time since 2004, Northbrook Star reported. New Trier senior Dano Johnson scored all three of his goals in the fourth quarter and helped the Trevians win over the Ramblers, ending an eight-game losing streak in the sectional finals, Northbrook Star reported. The North Shore native and Loyola Academy alum has signed a multi-year agreement with the company through 2016.
Olympic gold medalist Conor Dwyer has signed a multi-year agreement with Speedo USA through 2016, according to a press release. “I am very excited to be a part of the Speedo family,” said Dwyer, who was born in Evanston and grew up in Winnetka. “Speedo is the top name in swimwear and I appreciate the brand’s support as I embark on my professional swim career.” The 24-year-old Loyola Academy alum joins teammates Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps on Team Speedo and has his sights set on the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, where he hopes to represent USA in the freestyle and medley events and relays. The Illinois High School Association approved new safety rules Wednesday to limit tackling in youth football practice in an effort to reduce head injuries, reported the Daily Herald. In March, a controversial bill sponsored by State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) proposing to limit the number of days players could have full contact hitting practice (twice a week) failed in the House committee. The new IHSA policy calls for coaches to gradually increase the time players can participate in preseason practice, along with the number of protective pads they can wear. On the seventh day of practice, players can participate in five hours of full contact drills wearing full pads, according to the IHSA. However, no single practice can exceed …

The New Trier High School Girls Softball maintained their top seeded spot in the south division after defeating rival Evanston.
The New Trier High School softball team maintained their top seed in the Central Suburban League South Division with a 14-3 win over the Evanston Wildcats on Monday, the CSL Insider reported. Abbey Boyd and Alexa Caruso got back-to-back homeruns in the third inning. Boyd leads the team in runs-batted-in and is close eto hitting .500 this season. "I wasn't thinking about hitting home runs today, I just like to hit line drives," Boyd told CSL Insider. "I never really think I need to go out and hit a homer. North Shore Country Day School Assistant Coach Kevin Darling has been named the team's new head coach.
North Shore Country Day School has named Kevin Darling, who served as the assistant coach last season, the team's new head coach, an article by Wilmette Life states. Darling will be taking over the program from Jim Deuble and Fred Miller. Miller is leaving NSCDS to pursue coaching at the college or NFL level. Deuble, after 23 years, will be scaling back and working as an assistant coach. “I am looking forward to having the opportunity to have a positive impact on student-athletes,” Darling, works full-time as a personal trainer at Redefined Fitness and Physical Therapy in Wilmette, told the Wilmette Life. “I want them to have the same well-rounded experience as I had playing the game.” For more news on high school sports, 'like' the …

What is it like to stand 45 minutes and a few feet away from one of the nation’s most tragic moments? Michael and Lori Harris of Deerfield know the answer. Lori was a few feet away from the site of the second bomb explosion at Monday’ Boston Marathon as she watched her husband, Michael, run past on his way to crossing the finish line. Earlier: Three Deerfield Runners Finished Marathon Before Explosion “I was at the site of the second blast (when) I saw him (Michael) run by me,” Lori said. “I was so grateful I saw him. If you look away for a second you could miss.” He finished the race in 3:42.1 approximately 45 minutes before cheers turned into screams. After that they went through a very normal post race ritual.
