Some Residents Want Affordable Housing As Part of Wilmette Development

Housing advocates say affordable units should be part of the plans for 611 Green Bay Road.

Elizabeth Drake, a Wilmette resident for more than 20 years, says plans for 611 Green Bay Road should include an affordable housing component, Chicago Tribune reported.  In December, Chicago real estate developer Lexington Homes agreed to purchase the site of a former Ford dealership for $4 million, with plans to build a new six-story mixed-use development.  There’s no sign that affordable housing is in the plans for 611 Green Bay Road and Winnetka President Christopher Canning says he’s received only two communications about affordable housing, but housing advocates say it’s up to the village to push for affordable units in the plan, Chicago Tribune reported.  The village purchased the one-acre parcel, which formerly housed a Ford …

What's on the Agenda: Wilmette Hosts Capital Improvement and Budget Meetings, Aug. 16

The Village of Wilmette is hosting two special meetings tonight, find out what's up.

Wilmette officials will host two big financial meetings tonight.  First up is the Finance Committee and Municipal Services Committee, which will convene at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the village's 2012 to 2016 Capital Improvement Plan. Part of that discussion will be carried over for the Committee of the Whole meeting at 7 p.m. Highlights from that agenda include: Both meetings will be held in Village Hall on the second floor.
