Pint-Sized Basketball Star Sinks Shots

Titus, a 2-year-old basketball phenom, loves shooting trick shots.

Once Titus learned to walk, he started shooting baskets. These trick shots were filmed when Titus was between 18 and 24 months old, posted by Joseph Ashby in this YouTube video. If he keeps this up, we may see Titus in the NCAA Tournament - in about 17 years.

More than 400 votes were cast in last week's contest, see who won Athlete of the Week.

Loyola's Michelle Ricolcol is this week's Athlete of the Week.  Ricolcol led Loyola with 17 points in the Ramblers’ overtime loss to Barlett in the Class 4A state championship third-place game. It was the first time Loyola has gotten to the state semifinals since 1998. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 27 – March 4: Lucas Nudelman, junior, boys track and field, Highland Park – Nudelman took first place in the 1600 in a dual meet against Glenbrook North and Northside Prep. More than 8,000 votes were cast in last week's competition and Deerfield's Artie Bess was named Patch Athlete of the Week.  The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 20 - Feb. 26: Kathleen Stralka, senior, girl’s basketball, Loyola Academy – Stralka scored a team-high 10 points in Loyola’s 31-26 win over Glenbrook South. The victory gave the Ramblers the Class 4A New Trier Sectional championship and Loyola advanced to play Wheeling in the Stevenson Super-Sectional. Danny Katz, senior, boys track, Deerfield – Katz won the long jump, triple jump and 55-meter intermediate hurdles at the Buffalo Grove quad last week. Nominees for Athlete of the Week: Maine South's Jacqui Grant, New Trier's M.J. Pritchard, Evanston's Terrell Farmby, Deerfield's Christine Stitcher and Niles North's Karol Mlynarski

More than 48,000 ballots were received last week and North Shore Country Day's Austin Curren came out on top, winning Athlete of the Week. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 6 - Feb. 12: Christine Stitcher, junior, girls gymnastics, Deerfield – Stitcher qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. The Deerfield junior recorded a 36.825 in the all-around and also qualified in floor and uneven bars at the Niles North Sectional. The state meet will be held next week at Palatine High School. M.J. Pritchard, junior, wrestling, New Trier – Pritchard qualified for the wrestling state championships by taking third place in the 113-pound division of the Class 3A Barrington Sectional. More than 1,480 ballots were cast in last week's competition and Maine West's Brittany Collins was named the Patch Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 29 - Feb. 5: Austin Curren, junior, boys basketball, North Shore Country Day – Curren has had point totals of 25, 28 and 32 points in three conference wins for the Raiders. During that time he’s shot 67 percent from the field (29/43) and has turned the ball over only five times. Curren is also averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. Molly Kleppin, junior, girls basketball, Niles West - Kleppin led the Wolves with 15 points in a tough win against Maine South. More than 1,480 ballots were cast in last week's competition and Maine West's Brittany Collins is this week's Patch Athlete of the Week. Collins recorded four straight double-doubles for the Warriors last week. She scored at least 17 points and brought down at least 11 rebounds in games against Lake Zurich, Fenwick, Maine East and Johnsburg, helping Maine West win in two of those contests. The Maine West sophomore received 1,166 votes, or 78 percent.  HONORABLE MENTION Jim McPike, senior, wrestling, Glenbrook North – McPike took the conference championship in the 170-pound division. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 23 - Jan. 29: Jim McPike, senior, wrestling, Glenbrook North – McPike took the conference championship in the 170-pound division. The senior from Glenbrook North pinned New Trier’s Luke Hidder in the second period of the conference finals to claim the championship. The win moved McPike to 19-5 on the year. Dashae Shumate, sophomore, girls basketball, Niles West – Shumate made the game-winning layup for Niles West against Maine South last week. Her two points as time expired gave the Wolves a 42-41 win. More than 300 votes were cast last week and Glenbrook South's Molly McDonagh claimed the title of Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 16 - Jan. 22: Zach Cole, senior, boys bowling, Deerfield – Cole took third place at the sectional championships with a 1332 in his six-game series. The senior led Deerfield to a third-place team finish and qualified as an individual for the state championship. Cole averaged a score of 228.36 in the Northern Illinois Boys Bowling Conference this year. (Watch a video of Cole, perfect game, here.)
