Lights Out: Family Shares Struggles of Days Without Power

A Wilmette family tells Patch what it's been like since Monday's storm.

Wilmette resident Andrea Albaum-Feinstein stocked up on groceries July 10. Little did she know that a brief storm, which swept through the area July 11, would knock the power out in her Wilshire Drive home for four days. "We're lower on ComEd's totem pole," said Albaum-Feinstein, who noted that neighboring streets, such as Brookside Drive and nearby Centennial Park already had their power up first. "Whenever the power goes out we're always the last to get it back." Her family was one of the 7,242 ComEd patrons that struggled with power outages in Wilmette last week. And while Albaum-Feinstein's outage may have lasted longer and their circumstances been more frustrating than most, their experience shows how difficult it can be to carry on …

Comcast is Down Along North Shore

Midwest Storm takes out TV and the Internet.

If you were one of the fortunate ones that weren't affected and still have power, you may be without Internet and TV. At least if you're a Comcast customer.  A Comcast representative said the Midwest is experiencing an outage. And don't bother calling. Apparently, no matter how hard you try, you're call will be dropped. That's if you're calling 1800-Comcast.  Patch was able to get through via online chat. The best thing to do now is wait it out. The representative did note that technicians are out trying to remedy the problem, but no time table was given. In the meantime, if you're without both power and Comcast check out these places to cure the outage blues.
