Get Your Tickets for Jess Walter's Visit in Wilmette

As part of Wilmette Public Library's 'One Book, Everybody Reads' program, the library will host a discussion with Walter on his best-selling novel 'Beautiful Ruins' on May 5.

Wilmette Public Library will be hosting a discussion with author Jess Walter on his best-selling novel, Beautiful Ruins, on May 5 at the Wilmette Community Recreational Center Auditorium, 3000 Glenview Road, Wilmette. Starting April 27, Wilmette and Kenilworth residents can pick up a maximum of two free tickets at Wilmette Public Library. The event is the culmination of the library's One Book, Everybody Reads program and is sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Public Library. Labor Day: What's Open, What's Closed in Wilmette, Kenilworth

Sure, you get the day off but with all the closures, will you be able to get the things done you need to this Labor Day?

Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 3 and the unofficial end to summer. What are your plans? The Wilmette Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday for Laborday and reopen on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Community Recreation Center will be open Monday from 8 a.m to 2:30 p.m, but there will be no classes.   In Wilmette, Monday's yard and refuse waste collection will be delayed to Tuesday due to the holiday. In Kenilworth, there will be no waste collection Monday, there will only be one waste pick up in the village next week. Also, there is no mail service on Monday. All Village of Wilmette and Village of Kenilworth offices will be closed Monday but will reopen Tuesday. Wilmette's dog beach will be open on Labor Day. All banks are closed on Monday in …

Village Announces Cooling Centers For Heat Wave

With high temperatures and humidity, residents need to be prepared.

The National Weather Service is forecasting an extended period of extreme heat and humidity in the area this week. Today’s highs are expected to reach the mid 90’s, with heat index readings between 95 and 100. Tomorrow’s forecast shows higher temperatures in the upper 90’s with index readings between 100 and 105. The village of Wilmette has announced that a few area public buildings will be open as cooling centers including the Wilmette Public Library, Community Recreation Center , and theWilmette Police Department . The village also urges residents to check on the elderly or call the police department's non-emergency number at (847) 256-1200 if they or someone they know are in need of assitance. Celebrate Go Skateboarding Day in Wilmette

June 21 marks the international holiday.

Today marks the start of the summer season and, for once, it seems the sun might hold in the Chicagoland area. Why not enjoy the warm weather by celebrating Interntaional Go Skateboarding Day, too? The global event encourages skaters everywhere to pick up their boards and scoot. Wilmette has it's own skate park for patrons to enjoy—located in the Community Recreation Center at 3000 Old Glenview Road. Photo Gallery: 'Oliver!' Delights Audiences at Wilmette's North Shore Theatre

Performance is a first for lead actress.

Oliver!, Charles Dickens' famous novel, hits the Wilmette stage this month as Lionel Bart's musical. The production opens North Shore Theatre's 61st season. "We auditioned in September on the 15th and we've been working four days a week since then," Robert Bierie, Wilmette Park District performing arts supervisor, told Patch.   "This is a very good and talented cast; the kids are especially talented," Bierie said. Produced by Josephine Navarrete and directed by Ty Perry, the musical stars newcomer Marta Bady as Oliver. "She's [Bady] never performed before other than in a classroom," Biere said.
