Olvany To Fill Wilmette Park Board Vacancy

John J. Olvany was named the Park District's newest commissioner Monday evening.

The Wilmette Park District named John J. Olvany as its newest board commissioner during a special meeting Monday evening. Olvany's appointment is effective immediately, and he "will be sworn in at the Board’s next regular meeting on Sept. 12," according to a statement from the Park District. The 21-year Wilmette resident has served on the boards of the Wilmette Baseball and the Wilmette Hockey Assocations. Still No Word On Vacant Park District Board Seat

Board still considering four candidate for commissioner spot.

Despite hopes to vote on a new commissioner at its Monday meeting, the Wilmette Park District will have to wait to fill its vacancy until September. "We're still engaged in the process of evaluating candidates for the board vacancy," Commissioner Darrell Graham said. Steve Wilson, executive director of the park district, said the board had whittled the initial 11 candidates down to four and had planned to interview them at a closed vacancy meeting before Monday's board meeting. What's on the Agenda: Wilmette Park District Roundup, Aug. 8

Check out what's coming up on tonight's series of Park District meetings.

The Wilmette Park District's Centennial Operations Committee, Board Vacancy Committee and Board of Commissioners are hosting meetings tonight. All three meetings will take place on the second floor of Village Hall. The Board Vacancy Committee will meet at 6 p.m. and host a closed session "for discussion of the selection of a person to fill a public office," according to the agenda. The committee is on track to fill the commissioner position left vacant by Dennis O'Malley, who retired in June. It is likely that O'Malley's replacement will be announced later on in the evening.
