Can't wait until Election Day April 9? Early voting has commenced for Wilmette's village president election and other local contests.
Early voting begins this week for local Cook County contests, including Wilmette and Kenilworth's village president elections. Residents can vote early at Centennial Park, 2300 Old Glenview Rd., from Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Cook County Clerk's website has a complete listing of early voting polling places. "While turnout is usually low for the April election, the stakes are extremely high," stated Cook County Clerk David Orr in a press release. "The outcome of these races determines everything from education policy to local tax and infrastructure decisions. Voters should have their say at the polls." Early Voting continues through April 6. Four laptop computers belonging to the Cook County Clerk’s Office that were used in Wilmette’s early voting process were reported stolen after the machines went missing from a village building last month, police say. The stolen computers stored no voter information, but the incident was the first time Cook County voting equipment has been stolen since at least 2008 and perhaps earlier, said Cook County Clerk’s Office spokeswoman Courtney Greve. Wilmette’s early voting lasted from Oct. 22 to Nov. 3, was open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and took place at the Wilmette Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Rd. This was the first year the village had an early voting location.
Over 7,000 people voted early in Wilmette in advance of the 2012 presidential election. Wilmette's Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Rd., was one of four new early voting centers added this year in Cook County, and 7,448 people ventured to the location to cast their ballots between Oct. 22 and Nov. 3, according to the Cook County Clerk's Office website. Friday, Nov. 2 saw the biggest turnout at the Wilmette location, when 793 people voted. Early voting increased slightly countywide form the last presidential election, rising from 226,038 in 2008 to 228,695 during this election.

Here's where you can cast your ballot early, to avoid the rush on Election Day. You don't need an excuse--anyone can do it.
If you don't want to wait until Election Day, Nov. 6, to cast your ballot in the presidential election, you don't have to. In Cook County, early voting starts today and continues through Nov. 3. Anyone can vote early, and you don't need to give a reason. So if you have to work on election day, or just want to get it out of the way, you can head to the polls now. You need to bring a photo ID, such as a driver's license, state-issued ID card or university ID card with you in order to vote. You can vote at any early voting location in the county. Eager to do your civic duty? You're in luck.
Early voting in the April 5 consolidation elections begins today and ends March 31. "Local officials affect lives a great deal, so voter participation is crucial," Cook County Clerk David Orr said in a statement. "Government functions better when more people are heard." Here's what you'll need Voters are required to present election officials with "valid identification" before receiving a ballot.
