PHOTOS: Recently-Opened Artisanal Wilmette Grocery Store

The new grocery store, located at 414 Linden Ave., opened Sept. 7.

The last time Patch visited Artisanal Wilmette, the new 3,200-square-foot grocery store at 414 Linden Ave., all we could photograph was empty shelves in a storefront void of food. But since the store's Sept. 7 soft opening, the space abounds with seasonal fruit, locally-grown vegetables, free-range meats, wine, beer, fresh-baked bread, artisanal cheeses, spices galore and more. “It has been phenomenal," said owner Marsha Pesavento of the community response to the store. "Overwhelming. I can't tell you how many times a day people say thank you for [opening this grocery store].” Check out some of Artisanal Wilmette's offerings as we guide you on a brief photo tour of the recently-opened storefront. Stopped by for a carry out lunch the other day and the food was terrific. I really hope this commercial area can start to see some more foot traffic.   more ›

Readers' Choice Winner: Lakeside Foods

The Winnetka grocery store eked out a narrow victory.

This week's Readers' Choice poll was a close one, with the neighborhood grocery store Lakeside Foods narrowly taking the title. Not just a place to get all your essentials, Lakeside is a favorite lunch spot because of their made-to-order deli sandwiches. "A gem of a grocery that celebrates service, delicious deli items and untold pleasures interspersed throughout the story (like Irish cheese and the best brownies known to mankind)," wrote Tim Schellhardt in his five-star review of Lakeside. The runner up, Grand Food Center in Winnetka, was only two votes behind. Joanne Parks gave the store a five star review, praising its reasonable prices and great service. We'll be running reader's choice polls every Monday through Friday so that you can…

I don't shop at any of these stores unless I need something in a hurry. These stores are over priced. I go to Trader Joe's in Glenview and the Village Market in Skokie.   more ›
