New Trier Administrators Close School in Honor of Former Principal

Former Northfield Campus Principal Jan Borja died on Saturday.

New Trier administrators met on Sunday afternoon, after the news of Jan Borja's death on Saturday morning. The former Northfield Campus Principal's funeral service, scheduled for Wednesday morning, conflicted with school. The officials decided to close school for the day. "There’s no precedent for this, and I don’t expect it to happen again, exactly in this way," said Superintendent Linda Yonke. "The impact of Jan and the depth and bredth of her reach in the community is unique and really singular." The funeral for the Glenview resident is set for Wednesday at New Trier's Northfield campus.

Janet M. Borja, 65, of Glenview, died early Saturday morning after her battle with breast cancer. According to an obituary posted on Donnellan Family Funeral Services her last moments were spent with her husband, Jesus, daughter Kristin (Michael) Endre, and son James. She is also survived by her mother Edith Harris Johnson, brother Richard (Elaine) Harris, sister Jean (Richard) Bukowski, and grandson Charles Endre, and was preceded in death by her father Alfred Harris.
