Lake Forest High School’s Nina Nissly swims in first athletes with disability competition and becomes Illinois’s first triple individual champion.
Three week ago Lake Forest High School senior Nina Nissly was a member of the Scout junior varsity swim team getting ready for the North Suburban Conference Meet as she had during all four years of her career. On Saturday she became the first triple high school swimming champion in Illinois history. It took a lawsuit and help from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan as three gold medals came her way at the State Meet Friday and Saturday in Evanston. On the eve of the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games, those who coached Matt Grevers share their stories and experiences about the former Lake Forest state champion.
As assistant head coach at Lake Forest Swim Club for 27 years, Michael Lawrence has coached dozens of champion swimmers. Upon first glance, his most famous student, Lake Forest’s Matt Grevers now favored to win an Olympic gold medal in the backstroke, was nothing special. The New Trier High School Trevians girls ice hockey team shut out the Lake Forest High School Scouts, 1-0, Friday afternoon in the Illinois high school girls state championship held at the United Center.
Avenging state semifinal losses to Lake Forest the past two seasons, the Trevians rode a second-period goal by freshman Morgan Crane to a 1-0 victory in the Blackhawk Cup State championship battle on Friday afternoon at the United Center.

Other Notable Performances: New Trier's defense limited Lake Forest to just 12 shots on goal, and the Trevian offense attacked the Scouts net with 22 shots. Congressman talks about common sense regulation, same sex marriage and Iran.
A combination of more than 80 government and environmental studies students at Lake Forest High School came to class Friday prepared to ask Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) about his work in Congress, and they did not leave disappointed. A number of students pressed Dold on the environment, and he responded with specific answers. He also answered questions about same sex marriage and the Iranian nuclear threat. Dold made a case for what he has often termed smart regulation, told the students he was for civil unions between same sex couples but wanted to keep marriage between a man and a woman.
