Little Leaguers End Summer in Dramatic Fashion

Wilmette put three teams in the finals of the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League playoffs.

If history is the best predictor of future results, New Trier and Loyola Academy have a lot to look forward to six or seven years down the road. Wilmette’s 9A and 9B teams both made it to the championship games of the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League playoffs this summer. After nearly 60 years of little league games, the park underwent renovations in 2010 that included improved dugouts, concessions and fences. Local kids tested out the improved facilities as they kicked off the season. "We started this process two or three years ago to think about restoring the park," Wilmette Baseball Association Commissioner Sid Tepps. "The park was getting old and tired, the wood was rotting, things were falling down."  The league put together a plan and set out to raise $600,000. They primarily sold commemorative bricks and plaques that would be placed around Roemer Park and have raised $400,000 so far. Tepps hopes that the park will…
