The gold medalist posed for photos and signed posters at his dad's landscaping business in Wilmette.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers made an appearance at his father’s business, Chalet Nursery, in Wilmette Wednesday afternoon to meet with fans, sign posters and pose for photos. Grevers, who grew up and began his swimming career in Lake Forest, took home two gold and one silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics. He did the same in Beijing in 2008. As the son of award-winning landscape designer Ed Grevers, Matt joined his dad to talk “best practices” in the garden and swimming pool after meeting with fans. It's been a busy week for Winnetka native and Loyola Academy alum Conor Dwyer, who won a gold medal as part of the U.S. 800-meter freestyle relay team swimming with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Ricky Bernes in London.
Conor Dwyer was honored with a day named after him in Winnetka Saturday. The Village of Winnetka proclaimed Aug. 25 as "Conor Dwyer Day" during an event held at Hubbards Wood Park. On Friday, Dwyer visited his old high school in Wilmette, where he was honored with Loyola Academy's Ignatian Medal. Residents are invited to celebrate the Loyola Academy alum’s gold medal win at the 2012 London Olympics.
Winnetka will be naming Aug. 25 "Conor Dwyer Day" in honor of the Winnetka native and Loyola Academy alum for winning a gold medal during the 2012 Olympics. Dwyer won a gold medal as part of the U.S. 800-meter freestyle relay team swimming with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Ricky Bernes in London on July 31. The 23-year-old also helped fellow teammate Phelps to win the most medals in Olympic history. The Village of Winnetka and Winnetka Park District will be honoring the swimmer’s accomplishments during an event at 10 a.m., Aug. 25, at Hubbard Woods Park Gazebo. The Loyola Academy alum returned home Monday after winning a gold medal as part of the 800-meter freestyle relay in the London Olympics.
Winnetka native Conor Dwyer returned home Monday with a gold medal around his neck. While he’s excited to have helped Michael Phelps win the most medals in Olympic history, Dwyer’s also ready to relax. “I definitely need to recharge the batteries a little bit,” Dwyer told Winnetka Talk. The 23-year-old won a gold medal as a member of the 800-meter freestyle relay team, swimming with Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Ricky Berens in London on July 31. The Loyola Academy alum placed fifth in the 400-meter freestyle on July 28. Dwyer told ABCNews.com that it was great to be swimming in an era with some of the greatest athletes of all time.
