The new grocery store, located at 414 Linden Ave., opened Sept. 7.
The last time Patch visited Artisanal Wilmette, the new 3,200-square-foot grocery store at 414 Linden Ave., all we could photograph was empty shelves in a storefront void of food. But since the store's Sept. 7 soft opening, the space abounds with seasonal fruit, locally-grown vegetables, free-range meats, wine, beer, fresh-baked bread, artisanal cheeses, spices galore and more. “It has been phenomenal," said owner Marsha Pesavento of the community response to the store. "Overwhelming. I can't tell you how many times a day people say thank you for [opening this grocery store].” Check out some of Artisanal Wilmette's offerings as we guide you on a brief photo tour of the recently-opened storefront. To get the full scoop on the new spot, read…

The annual Going Green Matters brought 1,000 attendees to Wilmette.
March 11’s Going Green Matters 2012, sponsored by the Village of Wilmette and Go Green Wilmette, was a huge success! With more than 1,000 attendees (a few from as far away as Madison), including 150 exhibitors and 150 volunteers, it was the biggest and the best yet of Wilmette’s yearly environmental fairs. From the time the doors opened until the fair closed, it was busy with people asking questions of the exhibitors, exploring new ideas and resolving to adopt behaviors to improve the environment. It was a beautiful, spring-like day, and the crowds outside the Woman’s Club of Wilmette enjoyed displays of green cars and bikes. Alice Joseph, a librarian from the Wilmette Public Library, read environmental and nature-themed books to children …

Take a break from the bustle of the holiday season with a romantic night out.
Gilson's Gilson's has steadily grown in popularity since opening in 2007, drawing in couples for organic American bistro fare. Depending on the tone of your date, you can have a casual meal of bison burger and mahi mahi tacos in the wine bar, or reserve a seat in the dining room for a meal of lobster ravioli or braised lamb shank. Either way, you'll want to take advantage of their impressive wine list by sharing a bottle with that special someone. Depot Nuevo Located in a historic train depot, Depot Nuevo was named one of the top 25 tequila bars in America by MediaPlanet. The cheerfully decorated restaurant offers Latin-inspired cuisine paired with margaritas mixed with fresh juices and your choice of dozens of tequilas. It's a perfect …

Caterer has guests munching on organic foods brought in from nearby Midwest states.
It was a beautiful, breezy evening for those attending the Farm Dinner at the Chicago Botanic Garden on Wednesday night, and the menu wasn't that bad, either. The cocktails were fresh from Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois; some of the main-course herbs were picked right from their stems at the garden; and Chicago-based City Provisions, which caters only the finest in locally grown, sustainable and organic foods, did the cooking. Other food stories: Time Marches on for Grocery Store Owner More than 50 guests, who each paid $200 for the dinner reservations and tour through the fruit and vegetable garden, indulged in bacon- and buttercake-stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer, and portobello mushrooms with kale and bleu cheese over ciabatta bread…

Stopped by for a carry out lunch the other day and the food was terrific. I really hope this commercial area can start to see some more foot traffic.   more ›
