McKenzie drops out; Dold outraises Schneider and Sheyman.
The campaign for the redrawn 10th Congressional District seat became more defined last week when one Democratic candidate left the field and Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) put some fundraising distance between himself and the two remaining Democratic challengers. Wheeling attorney Robert McKenzie told Patch Sunday he is withdrawing from the race while Dold raised more than the two remaining Democrats combined, according to reports filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). “I didn’t feel it was the right thing anymore for my family,” McKenzie said. “I had to make a decision to go with my family.” McKenzie has not endorsed either of his primary opponents but indicated he remains committed to putting a Democrat in the seat…

Dold, Schneider, Sheyman all report fundraising efforts in 10th District.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) raised $202,416 for her 2012 reelection effort for the quarter ending July 30, according to a report filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). As a result of the new Congressional district boundaries signed into law last month by Gov. Patrick Quinn, Schakowsky’s 9th Congressional District will now include all of Winnetka and Kenilworth as well as large parts of Glenview, Wilmette and Northbrook. In the neighboring 10th Congressional District, which lies to the north of the 9th, Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and two of his potential Democratic challengers—Brad Schneider and Ilya Sheyman— have disclosed the results of their fundraising efforts. Only Schakowsky has filed her FEC report, …

Former presidential candidate highlights grassroots workshop.
Former Presidential candidate and Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Howard Dean urged a group of local Democrats to hone their organizational skills at a grassroots training session this weekend. “We’re going to win the seat this time,” Dean said to the group of over 150 that hope to capture the 10th Congressional District seat for the first time in decades. The newly reconfigured district is considered friendlier to the Democrats. The sessions, held Saturday and Sunday at the United Autoworkers facility in Lincolnshire, were organized by the Tenth Congressional District Democrats and Democracy for America (DFA), an outgrowth of Dean’s 2004 Presidential campaign. The former Vermont governor was introduced by Ilya Sheyman, a Dean…

Dold, May, Gable and Rotering participate in annual community event.
The more than 1,400 people who walked through Highland Park Sunday at the annual Jewish United Fund’s (JUF) Israel Solidarity Day event were joined by a special group: politicians. Elected officials at the federal, state and local levels participated in the opening ceremonies. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) delivered the keynote addres, and was joined by state Reps. Karen May (D-Highland Park) and Robyn Gable (D-Evanston) along with Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering. Dold and Rotering walked part of the route together. All four have varying degrees of connection to Israel. Dold returned from a JUF mission two weeks ago with a number of people from the North Shore, including Sandy Perl of Glencoe, who walked with Dold and Rotering. “I…

Attorney Robert McKenzie files paperwork with Federal Election Commission.
Wheeling resident and Chicago lawyer Robert A. McKenzie intends to seek the Democratic nomination for the newly drawn 10th Congressional District's House seat. Though McKenzie has yet to make a formal announcement, he has formed a committee—McKenzie for Congress—and launched a website. He filed papers with the Federal Election Commission on May 7 that indicated his intention to run. McKenzie is the third candidate seeking the Democratic nomination to oppose Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the 2012 November election. Waukegan community organizer Ilya Sheyman and Deerfield business consultant Brad Schneider have already announced their campaigns. When the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation creating a new congressional map …

Let's not leave Ilya Sheyman' presence unobserved.
