Late Rally Comes Up Short for Loyola Football

The Ramblers dropped the playoff semifinal to Glenbard North 27-24.

Loyola came up a bit short in their quest to return to the Class 8A state finals. The Ramblers staged a late fourth quarter rally, only to drop a 27-24 decision to Glenbard North in the semifinals Saturday In Wilmette. “I am really proud of our boys,” Loyola coach John Holocek said. “We made some mistakes early and fell behind. But the boys never quit up until the end.” Loyola fell behind 14-0 late in the first half until a 25-yard field goal by the Ramblers’ Mike Kurzydlowski with five seconds left in the half cut the margin to 14-3. Loyola Football Heads to State Semifinals

The Loyola Ramblers beat the Palatine Pirates 19-7.

The Loyola Academy Ramblers football team is heading to the Class 8A semifinals after beating Palatine High School 19-7 Saturday in Wilmette. The No. 2-ranked Ramblers showed their defensive prowess early and often. The Loyola defense intercepted Palatine three times in the first half, including once on a deflected a pass during Palatine’s first play from scrimmage. Palatine’s high-powered offense, which had been averaging over 44 points per game, was short circuited by a stout Loyola defense, which came up with four total interceptions and held Palatine to a season-low 180 yards of total offense.
