Ryan Klarner, a Palatine swimmer and diver, reached out to Taco Bell last month and requested a customized Speedo with 'think outside the buns' printed on it. The company is reportedly granting his wish.
A swimmer and diver from Fremd High School in Palatine is getting his wish for a Speedo with the phrase 'think outside the buns' on it from his favorite fast-food restaurant, Taco Bell, Yahoo News Canda reports. Ryan Klarner requested through the company's Facebook page he be sent the swimwear, according to Yahoo News Canada, due to the fact he is a big fan of their food, and eats Taco Bell five to seven times per week. Tom Petersen, director of community relations for Township High School District 211 said athletes cannot accept gifts worth more than $75, and are not allowed to wear swimwear other than what is provided by the district during competitions. The gold medalist posed for photos and signed posters at his dad's landscaping business in Wilmette.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers made an appearance at his father’s business, Chalet Nursery, in Wilmette Wednesday afternoon to meet with fans, sign posters and pose for photos. Grevers, who grew up and began his swimming career in Lake Forest, took home two gold and one silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics. He did the same in Beijing in 2008. As the son of award-winning landscape designer Ed Grevers, Matt joined his dad to talk “best practices” in the garden and swimming pool after meeting with fans. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 6 - Feb. 12: Christine Stitcher, junior, girls gymnastics, Deerfield – Stitcher qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. The Deerfield junior recorded a 36.825 in the all-around and also qualified in floor and uneven bars at the Niles North Sectional. The state meet will be held next week at Palatine High School. M.J. More than 1,480 ballots were cast in last week's competition and Maine West's Brittany Collins was named the Patch Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 29 - Feb. 5: Austin Curren, junior, boys basketball, North Shore Country Day – Curren has had point totals of 25, 28 and 32 points in three conference wins for the Raiders. During that time he’s shot 67 percent from the field (29/43) and has turned the ball over only five times. Curren is also averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. The senior from Glenbrook North pinned New Trier’s Luke Hidder in the second period of the conference finals to claim the championship. The win moved McPike to 19-5 on the year. More than 71,000 votes were cast in last week's contest and Niles West's Ryan Miller was voted as the Athlete of the Week. Miller won the 100 butterfly at the Buffalo Grove Invitational, finishing in 54.63 seconds. Miller also took third in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes 6.85 seconds). The Niles West senior received 39,586 votes, or 55 percent. Loyola football advanced to the semifinals while girls basketball starts its season this week.
Girls Swimming: Defending state champion New Trier ran away with the team title at the Glenbrook South Sectional on Saturday, accumulating 302 team points and four event victories. The Trevians beat out runner-up Loyola (256) and third-place Glenbrook South (213) among the 12 teams. Caroline Grant won the diving competition with a score of 468.5 points and Anna Peterson took first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.68 seconds). The Trevians’ 200 freestyle relay (1:36.53) and 400 free relay (3:29.42) also took first, setting pool records at Glenbrook South. In total, New Trier qualified two individuals in each event, plus one team for each relay, giving the Trevians the maximum number of entrants to the state meet. Loyola has 15 individual …
