New Trier Softball: Ieuter Pitches Trevians to Sectional Title

New Trier took advantage of four Glenbrook South errors and Brigit Ieuter was dominant on the mound.

New Trier pitcher Brigit Ieuter hadn’t been called for an illegal pitch all season. So when six of them were called against Ieuter in the sectional championship game on Saturday afternoon, it would’ve been easy for the junior right-hander to become unglued and irritated. But New Trier’s ace persevered, tossing a complete-game one-hitter, helping New Trier to an 8-1 victory over Glenbrook South in the IHSA Class 4A Winnetka Sectional championship game. “I give our girls a lot of credit and I give Brigit a lot of credit because she really kept her composure when it’s easy to become a little unnerved given those calls on the illegal pitches,” New Trier coach John Cadwell said. The illegal pitches were only part of a strange, error-filled game…

New Trier Softball: Trevians Top GBS To Take CSL South Lead

Brigit Ieuter allowed only three hits and the Trevian offense came through with two runs in the ninth inning.

In a CSL South matchup featuring two of the conference’s best pitchers, the difference came down to a couple of sacrifice bunts. After Glenbrook South’s Kim Lohre tied the game on a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning off New Trier’s Brigit Ieuter, the Trevian offense broke through for two runs in the ninth inning and New Trier (7-6, 4-0 CSL South) came away with a crucial 4-2 win over Glenbrook South (8-6, 3-1 CSL South). “We were put in the position where we had to find out whether we could execute small ball and we did,” New Trier coach John Cadwell said. “The girls put the bunts down, there was good baserunning. You can’t depend on being able to put one in the gap; you’ve got to be able to manufacture things.” Shorstop Ryan…

Ramblers Lose Regional Final to Glenbrook South

After gaining a double-digit lead in the first half, Loyola Academy's offense struggled and the Titans rallied for a 45-39 victory.

Through the first 12 minutes of Thursday night’s regional final, Loyola Academy looked like it was going to run Glenbrook South out of the building. The Ramblers were getting out in transition, knocking down threes and getting to more loose balls. Loyola was playing with more energy and nullifying the Titans’ size advantage. But Loyola’s (22-8) three-point shooting went cold in the second half and Glenbrook South (20-8) rallied for a 45-39 victory to win the IHSA Class 4A Wilmette Regional championship. “At times we didn’t shoot the ball particularly well,” Loyola coach Jeremy Schoenecker said. “That’s something we’ve sort of lived and died with all year and unfortunately tonight we didn’t shoot it well enough to win.” Playing in their …

Trevians Stage Late Comeback in 4th Straight Victory

New Trier went to a stifling 1-3-1 zone defense that shut down Glenbrook South in the fourth quarter.

Two weeks ago the ending to Friday night’s game between New Trier and Glenbrook South would’ve been different. But Friday night, New Trier’s Austin Angel showed the impact one player can make in any game. The 6-foot-4 junior scored 14 points and made New Trier’s biggest shot down the stretch: a three-pointer from the right corner that gave the Trevians a late four-point lead. New Trier (11-9, 4-3 CSL South) hung on for a 59-56 victory over Glenbrook South (8-12, 1-6 CSL South) and extended their winning streak to four games. “I’m starting to hit the spot, get my legs back and contribute more to the team and more as I get faster and back into it,” said Angel, who missed more than a month with a ruptured appendix. “Coaches knew it, I knew it…
