The district could bring back Ouilmette Foundation to help local families in need.
For Wilmette families that find the cost of the local Park District programming a little challenging, there may be help on the way — the Ouilmette Foundation could be making a comeback. The Ouilmette Foundation, last used in 1983 to fund a facelift for Gillson Park’s Wallace Bowl but has been dormant ever since, could be resurrected as a vehicle for individuals or corporations to donate directly to Wilmette Park District. The district is starting to work on the process of getting the foundation back into place, first by filing paperwork to get current tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. “We are at the beginning of the red tape steps with the IRS. More than 100 people gathered to discuss climate change for the environmental event.
When the sky cleared and the sun shone brightly at 2 p.m. on Sept. 24, after a morning of heavy rain and thunderstorms, members of Go Green Wilmette could not have been more delighted. The good weather brought about 120 people to Wallace Bowl for a gathering to promote climate change solutions. The event was held in conjunction with events all over the planet. The group was photographed forming the number “350,” which is the safe level of carbon in the atmosphere. The park district switched up and canceled some of its Thursday programming.
Scorching temps caused Wilmette Park District summer camps to be moved indoors and field trip sto be canceled Thursday, the Wilmette Life reports.
