As part of Wilmette Public Library's 'One Book, Everybody Reads' program, the library will host a discussion with Walter on his best-selling novel 'Beautiful Ruins' on May 5.
Wilmette Public Library will be hosting a discussion with author Jess Walter on his best-selling novel, Beautiful Ruins, on May 5 at the Wilmette Community Recreational Center Auditorium, 3000 Glenview Road, Wilmette. Starting April 27, Wilmette and Kenilworth residents can pick up a maximum of two free tickets at Wilmette Public Library. The event is the culmination of the library's One Book, Everybody Reads program and is sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Public Library. O'Reilly, 86, got her masters in library and information science while she had five young children at home. She became the head of reference services for the Wilmette Public Library. Her funeral is Thursday.
The following obituary is from Donnellan Family Funeral Services: Rosella O’Reilly of Wilmette, 86, long-time head of reference at the Wilmette Public Library, gregarious and loving mother of five children and ten grandchildren, and aunt to numerous nephews and nieces, died on December 29, 2012, in Evanston. She was the wife of the late Charles T. O'Reilly, Ph.D., and the sister of Edna Comiskey, who resides in Covington, Louisiana, with her husband Patrick Comiskey. She died of complications from a cardiac condition, her eldest son Terrance said. A film examining the controversy surrounding genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) was screened at the Wilmette Public Library on Nov. 14. “Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives" was shown as part of a Go Green Wilmette co-sponsored event. Since the 1970s, genetically-modified foods have flooded our food supply, and this film documents this development’s downside by making connections between GMO food and many of our current health problems. Genetically-modified plants, which are substances not found in nature, have been engineered to be herbicide tolerant and pesticide resistant, and they have taken over our food system. The following information was provided by the Wilmette Public Library: This past summer Wilmette resident Stuart Wolf noticed a sign at the Wilmette Public Library announcing a national baseball trivia contest called “Step Up to the Plate.” He entered the contest, and last month found himself — along with his son and his father — as the contest’s grand prize winner on a V.I.P. tour of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Wolf knew that his father, 86-year-old Sherman Wolf of Chicago, who once worked for the Chicago White Sox, had always wanted to visit the Cooperstown, New York, Hall of Fame.
