Wilmette Man Charged with DUI, Three Counts of Child Endangerment

Wilmette Blotter: Cellphone, iPod, Stolen, Graffiti Found on Village Signs

From fraud to the theft of a bike on Isabella Road, here are the latest reports from Wilmette Police Department.

The loss was estimated at $650, police said.  A village stop sign, pole and anchor was reported stolen from the 2700 block of Iroquois on Dec. 23. MAP: 132 Wilmette Garage and Auto Burglaries in 2012

Wilmette garage and auto burglaries are up 67 percent this year. See where such crimes are being committed with our interactive map.

In late August, Patch reported that Wilmette garage and auto burglaries were up 67 percent in 2012. Above is a map detailing the locations and dates of these crimes. From Jan. 1 through August 24, 132 garage and auto burglaries were reported to the Wilmette Police Department. Only 79 such burglaires were reported during the same period in 2011. Nearly 80 percent of the burglaries occurred by alleys on Wilmette's east side, between Ridge and Sheridan Roads, and the Kenilworth and Evanston borders, police said. Seeley Ave., Chicago, was arrested Aug. 28 for using a forged credit/debit card at Jewel-Osco grocery store, 411 Green Bay Rd.  Theft A wallet containing, cash, identification and credit cards was reported stolen at Corner Bakery in Edens Plaza, 3232 Lake Ave., between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Aug. 22. Unauthorized charges totaling $700 were made on the victim’s credit card. Wilmette Auto, Garage Burglaries Up 67% Since 2011

Wilmette Police Department is starting a public safety/ crime prevention campaign to stem an increase in auto and garage burglaries occurring in the village.

Burglars have been targeting unlocked cars and auto garages more in Wilmette during 2012 than in 2011, according to Wilmette police. From Jan. 1 through August 24, 132 garage and auto burglaries were reported to the Wilmette Police Department, a 67 percent increase from last year when 79 such burglaries were reported to the Wilmette police during the same period. Wilmette police have made over a dozen arrests, and have identified and cleared 50 cases so far this year. But with the significant increase in such cases from last year, police are starting a campaign urging residents to lock their properties. “This campaign is focused on prevention, reducing the opportunity for those crimes to occur,” Police Chief Brian King said in a statement…

The loss was estimated at $90.  Bike Theft A locked bike was stolen from the bike rack at the Metra Station, 722 Green Bay Road, between 6:10 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 23. Earlier: Wilmette Blotter: 6 Unlocked Garages Burgled in 2 Days, Bike Thefts Warrant Arrest Jose Vazquez, 33, of 1029 Wadsworth, North Chicago, was arrested Aug. 20 on outstanding warrants from Northfield and DuPage County following a traffic stop at 700 Le Claire. Police charged Vazquez with a felony after discovering that this was his third arrest for driving while license revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Jimmie R. Wilmette Blotter: 6 Unlocked Garages Burgled in 2 Days, Bike Thefts

These were the major crimes, thefts, burglaries reported by the Wilmette Police Department. Earlier: Wilmette Blotter: $95,000 Fake Check, $2,100 Tool Kit Stolen, Theft Burglary to Auto A Mac Book Pro and hard drive was stolen from the rear seat of a car parked in the lot at Millen’s Hardware, 1219 Wilmette Ave. The burglar gained entry by breaking out the rear passenger window. The loss was estimated at $2,300.  About $1,000 in Canadian dollars were stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 200 block of Dupee Place between Aug. 13 and15.  Burglary to Unlocked Garages Between Aug. 20 and 21 there were six burglaries to unlocked garages in Wilmette. These are the crimes, thefts and major traffic stops reported by the Wilmette Police Department between Aug. 6 and 13. Burglary to Auto A tool kit and other electronic boards were reported stolen from a car parked in the 3100 block of Old Glenview Road between Aug. 6 and 8. Entry into the vehicle was gained by breaking out the driver’s side window. The loss is estimated at $2,150.  Theft A duffel bag containing a cell phone and other sports equipment were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Loyola Academy, 1100 Laramie Rd., on Aug. 10. The loss is estimated at $280. Earlier: Wilmette Police Blotter: Samsonite Bag Stolen from Vehicle, Bike Thefts   Bike Theft A racing bike valued at $3,000 was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1600 block of Spencer Avenue between Aug. 3 and 4.  A Trek men’s mountain bike valued at $500 was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1600 block of Washington Avenue on Aug. 2.  A bike valued at $300 was stolen from a home in the 1600 block of Central Avenue between July 28 and 31. The bike was later found locked to a telephone pole at 1621 Central Ave. The owner says he typically leaves the key in the cable lock.  A locked men’s mountain bike valued at $435 was stolen from Gillson Park between July 27 and 30.  A bike valued at around $300 was stolen from an unlocked garage…
