Wilmette Weather: Are We Getting Snow in April?

Expect some unusual weather within the next few days, including the possibility of snow on Saturday.

  Only in Illinois could you get the possibility of snow in April. According to several weather experts, including weather.com, the Chicagoland area is up for some rain and snow. Yes, snow. On Wednesday, many were hit with heavy showers, gusting winds and, in some areas, hail, according to ABC Chicago. Meanwhile, more than 370 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport. Heavy rain is expected Thursday followed by snow flurries on Saturday, according to weather.com. Temperatures will range from a low of 30 degrees on Friday to a high of 57 degrees on Sunday.

Wilmette Reports No Damage Yet from Harsh Weather

As of Tuesday evening, fast winds and tall waves had not caused harm, but the village is not out of the woods quite yet.

Warnings of fast winds and high waves may have given some Wilmette residents the expectation of awaking Tuesday to a town full of broken tree branches, scattered trash and other debris. Yet the village seems to have escaped the first day of the storm largely without damage. During the past day and a half, Illinois’ lakeside towns have been on alert, warned by the National Weather Service that harsh weather conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy had the potential to cause floods, 60 mph winds and 18 to 23 foot waves along Lake Michigan. The Village of Wilmette sent out a special weather alert Monday afternoon, advising residents to stay away from beaches and public parks by the waterfront. The watch will be in effect until 8 p.m. The storms could occur because a weak cold front is pushing its way through the area, National Weather Service officials said.
