Chicago Man Arrested for North Shore Armed Robberies

The crime spree began May 16 and hit Winnetka, Northfield, Wilmette and Glenview.

A Chicago man has been charged with armed robbery after police said he used a knife to rob three North Shore stores and attempted to rob another. Austin Pierce, 25, has been charged with the robberies in Winnetka, Wilmette, Glenview and Northfield, police said. The spree began May 16 at Yellow Bird Stationary Store in Wilmette’s Plaza del Lago, where a man wearing a lifeguard sweatshirt implied he had a knife and left with $200. On May 17, a man holding a knife ordered an employee at Claire’s in Glenview to open the cash register. Store Owners Remain Mostly Unfazed by Armed Robberies Nearby

Neighbors of the four North Shore stores that were robbed last week say they aren't planning to take any dramatic security measures. The suspect in the crimes is still at large.

North Shore store owners say they aren’t changing their habits or getting panicked about safety in light of the four armed robberies or attempted robberies in the area last week. Lynn Hansen has owned Artisan Shop and Gallery in Wilmette for 30 years. Her store is six stores away from Yellow Bird Stationery, which was the first shop targeted in the crime spree. “I’m not going to lock my front door and buzz customers in,” Hansen said. “I guess I just don’t live in fear. Stuff happens; houses get robbed. Even if you are on the North Shore, things happen.” Of course, there’s no way to avoid having some reaction to an armed robbery so close by, she said. “We are a little bit on guard,” Hansen said. “You just have to be careful and hope it …

Fourth North Shore Armed Robbery Attempted in Three Days

The lifeguard bandit strikes again. An offender robbed a Hubbard Woods shop on Friday afternoon. Police said he matches the description of a young man in a lifeguard sweatshirt who targeted three other North Shore stores, including one in Wilmette.

A fourth retail store in the North Shore was targeted by an armed offender  Friday afternoon, Winnetka police announced Saturday morning. A man entered a shop in Hubbard Woods at about 1:30 p.m. with a knife and demanded cash from the clerk before leaving the store, according to police. Police declined to name the store, citing the pending investigation. Police also declined to say how much money the offender took from the store. Robbery at Wilmette’s Yellow Bird Stationery

A man described as in his early 20’s stole $200 from the store in Plaza Del Lago Shopping Center Wednesday morning.

A man, who implied he had a knife, robbed a Wilmette stationery store Wednesday morning, according to police. The man entered Yellow Bird Stationery, 1515 Sheridan Rd., and handed the clerk a note demanding money. He left with $200 in cash and was last seen heading north from the store on foot, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with the word “life guard” printed on the back, and darker brown khaki shorts, police said.
