Readers' Choice Winner: Wilmette Flowers

The Wilmette florist shop won this week's poll for best florist shop in New Trier Township.

This week's Readers' Choice poll for best florist shop received more than 350 votes and nine comments. The winner, with 174 votes, was Wilmette Flowers at 3217 Lake Ave. in Wilmette. "My memories of high school homecoming, prom flower and my grandma's memorial flowers were all from this family-owned flower shop," said Grace in the store's listing review. "They were like our family who have be there with us in good times and sad times. New Trier Hopes for Best, Prepares for Worst at Prom

Saturday night's prom returns to the Hyatt Regency downtown with an uptick in attendance, as school takes safety precautions.

This Saturday night, New Trier High School – after a one-year hiatus – returns to the downtown Hyatt Regency Chicago to stage its junior and senior prom. It’s a return to a traditional venue, after last year's prom was moved to Rosemont for financial reasons. More than 1,200 tickets have been sold for this year’s gathering, according to Gail Gamrath, an adviser to the girls of the junior class. This represents a sharp increase of about 100 additional tickets compared to last year's attendance at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Some said that the heightened interested can be traced to the new opportunity for students to get into the city.
