Lorraine, I asked 3 questions (in reverse order from below).
    1. I asked how backwash/pollution can neighboring communities expect to get when we start massively pumping and dumping "first flush" out of the Willow tunnel. There was a woman from Wilmette that asked the same question at a previous meeting and I felt like she didn't really get a full/clear answer.
    2. I asked Trustee Buck if he really meant that he wouldn't consider ANY financial incentives for residents that want to make environmentally-friendly decisions that would help fight the floodwater problem (like special storm drains or tanks or permeable driveways, etc). And the answer I got (paraphrasing) was, "Anything a homeowner wants to do that's green should be on their dime." Even though - according to the expert - the incremental cost for such an effort might be a whopping $3.00 per HH. (So, we should spend a fraction of a fraction of the total cost per HH toward doing something good for the earth? HECK NOT, that's not the kind of Village we want to be!!!)
    3. I asked if any of the Trustee's lived in or owned homes in the NW region (Tower/Forest Glen) that is rumored to be ahead of other areas that experienced serious flooding. This was based on the current WATER petition - http://www.change.org/petitions/let-s-fix-it-fairly-2?utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition - & presentation shared @ the caucus mtg. on Wed.
Kates does own a home there. And he got mad fast.

Gosh Sully, that's a tough one. I think I'd prefer something fresher-- like "shawty!!" Urban dictionary defines that as "a young girl/woman." It's no more or less offensive...except that it can also imply statue.

    Catherine....continuation of my e-mail above....

WWJD? Step 1 - Ignore, ignore ignore until enough is enough. Step 2 - Reach out to the people that said false or assumptive things about you in print. I visited only one person (another lie)...it was halloween..we were in the area...I should have called ahead & made a reservation. ;-) Regardless of how you twist it, I was courteous, straight-forward and brief. A few others I called. Most apologized & were ashamed their private e-mail was scattered. Step 3 - Recognize that Step 2 was an epic fail! Some people just can't handle direct conversations with people they have attacked. They'd obv. rather hide behind the veil of WHOA than face a perceived "enemy." I find that unfortunate. Step 4 - ?

So, if you have a reasonable solution. I'm all ears!

C, Let's turn the tables & play WWCD:
    - If you expressed your opinions & a certain segment of the population deemed them "so dastardly/so "UnWinnetkan") that they set out to harass and criticize nearly every aspect of your home, extracurriculars, etc.
    - If your kids found nails in the driveway - 3x.
    - If your son had to see a looney-tune neighbor throw a tantrum on your front porch?
    - If your signs and misc. yard items were stolen night after night.
    - If you got anon. letters (hey, didn't you - ck - admit to fantasizing about writing to me??) that called your family names they didn't deserve b/c of your political or personal viewpoints?
    - If you read lie after lie after lie about you in fear-mongering e-mails?

    Hi, John -
Bummer the parks meeting was cancelled last week!

I agree that the Village benefits from ALL voices -- as long as they tell the truth. :-)

GIARA - What you see on the Patch is two-way communication - give and take. Posts and responses. What you see in WHOA e-mails is 1-sided, only what she wants to print and so often out of context, altered, doctored, not-approved-by-sender, etc.

So, you're relatively newish...welcome! If you don't gossip or attend meetings...what are your sources? Can you elaborate on these "various forms of information?"

Call me anything you wish. But if I'm "divisive" for standing up to some of the b.s. that WHOA has put out there, so be it. Congrats for being smart enough to "decifpher" ?

    Catherine -
Yes, I did. You don't know me and I don't know you. Yet you felt free to flame me and were contemplating anonymous letters. I wanted to meet you and offered you my e-mail so you could contact me directly if you had complaints. That's called showing respect. At that time, you apologized and said your e-mail to Carry was private and never supposed to be blasted via WHOA.

    This isn't:
"Carry – Okay, now it makes sense. THIS is the person (Jen McQuet) who lives at xxx & yyyy, the house with all the offensive Romney signs? Wow. Before knowing her involvement with Affordable Housing and the Greeley video issues, I actually thought about writing a "Dear Neighbor" letter to let them know how offended I was by their immature signs. Never mind, I get it now.... Catherine Karabas"

    Corrections:
    - no one "subscribes" to the WHOA e-mails. They mysteriously arrive whether you want them or not. And then when you write in telling them so, you get axed.
    - Carry/WHOA doesn't always tell the truth! There are so many examples of their fiction-writing & twisting and contorting of what people said, did or wrote, it's revolting.
    - WHOA is not a legitimate organization. There are no votes, no fees, no official board....are renters allowed a "say" in these e-mails? Are all homeowners represented? NO.

I disagree. We all owe the Patch for giving people in the community the opportunity to respond to one another. The back&forth name calling and such is just silly. But unlike WHOA's 1-sided missives, this allows for corrections to be made and varying opinions to be shared.

WHOA/Carry doesn't send a "newsletter." So let's talk facts, not ask obscure candlelight quotes?

446-6673 is my home phone, let's continue the conversation you want to have. You personally, addressed me, so I'm happy to respond. :-)
