Natalie Kaplan always liked to tell stories but never knew it would turn into a career one day. She first recognized her passion for journalism interning at a TV station in Detroit while attending the University of Michigan. After that it was all she wanted to pursue.

After college Natalie landed at WIFR in Rockford, Illinois. There she produced and reported for the local CBS affiliate for two years. Her next stop was WITN in Greenville, North Carolina. Natalie anchored the noon news and reported for the evening newscasts. While in Greenville, she earned an award from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas for a series of pieces on Pit Bull attacks.

Natalie grew up in downtown Chicago and is thrilled to be back in the Midwest, working for Patch in Deerfield. She loves seeing new places and meeting new people. If you ever bump into her around town, make sure to say hi!

Your Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics

How would you describe your political beliefs?

I usually order a conservative appetizer and a liberal entrée, but dessert is always up for discussion.

Religion

Do you identify with a certain religion? If so, which one? How religious would you consider yourself?

I'm a Jewish pork eater.

Local Hot-Button Issues

What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?

That's what I'm hoping to figure out and learn from you. I just moved to Deerfield and am working hard to acclimate myself to the community. Feel free to call or email when you think I should be at an event, investigating something or asking a question about something else.
