Just reread the article. "Plans for a "police manpower study........The proposed budget does not include 18.5 full-time personnel positions that were frozen during the recession as a cost saving measure, which represents an annual savings of $950,000,"

What the hell? So we're going to 'study' hiring more officers? Buying a mobile command center but NOT hiring more police officers?

This budget is a flaming pile of BS.

If baggers are walking to people's cars, this either means, hiring more baggers (higher overhead, higher prices) or losing baggers in the store till the return from their escorting duties, meaning cashiers will have to bag, slowing down the checkout process. Offering to assist as has been done for a long time is fine. Stationing one employee in the lot to retrieve carts, fine, but every shopper escorted on a mandatory basis? You lose my business.

Sorry, not needed. From the article: "will create a visible, convenient community meeting place while increasing direct access to public safety services"

A community meeting place? In a bus? We have city hall, the library, I was not aware that us Skokie residents lacked meeting space. And direct access to public safety services? What the hell does that mean? If you need safety services, call 911. This is just an expensive toy that is unneeded. Hiring more police officers, bravo, but no to this overpriced bus.

Pita Inn as number 1? Herm's and Hub in the top 10? Tub Tim Thai & Skokie Inn not even making the list? No, this is not a reasonable or fair ranking.

Panera Bread. Open early, open late, can get a full meal, or can get carry out. Good quality, not too expensive food.

To those negative posters in this thread - tell how your children require God's help if Gays and Lesbians are finally granted the same rights as anyone else?

If you feel God thinks gay marriage is wrong, ya' know what? Don't get gay married.

Let me know when you start campaigning to make divorced illegal, since that is mentioned far more in the bible. The bible says don't eat pork. Shall we pass a law? And what about that whole "don't judge others" thing?

Picking and choosing biblical passages to hide your own dislike is cowardly. You find homosexuals distasteful, that's your right. But own up to it and don't hide behind the bible and don't use your interpretation of what God wants to dictate what rights you are willing to "allow" other people to have.

Do you enjoy using your computer to type your hateful comments? You might also want to google "Alan Turing" who was not only a war hero, he also is considered the father of modern computing. He committed suicide, because he was persecuted for being gay, which was illegal

While it is no longer illegal in American to be gay, right now, in 2013, you can still be fired in a majority of states, simply for being gay (or even being perceived as gay even if your not).

You may want to remember the phrase "All men are created equal..." Slowly, we are getting there.

Flame away haters. I will not add any more content to this thread. May God have mercy on you for judging others, in defiance of God's will.

Who thinks that Panera needs to open in the old Desiree location? Two churches, library, village hall, two banks, the Skokie Theater, senior housing and condo buildings all within a few blocks. I think they'd need wheelbarrows to haul out the cash they'd make. Come on Panera!!!

How will this impact the safety of neighbors to families with large dogs? One of the reasons some homeowners have 6' fences it to insure their larger breed dogs cannot jump a fence.

It also reduces the chance that a coyote will jump the fence and enter the yard where smaller pets (and children) can be at risk.

Since every back yard in my area has a 6' fence (many erected without even obtaining permits), this new ordinance will permanently reduce the value of my home, since my yard will have less privacy and somewhat less security.

A "confused person" will have a hard time jumping a 6' fence than a 5', right?

And exactly what sorts of crime problems have we had related to fence height?

Don't regulate to correct a problem that doesn't exist.
