Food Pantry Needs Support in the Summer

The Township Food Pantry operates all year long, and we are fortunate to have a fairly consistent influx of donations from residents and businesses during the school year. However, the summer months are historically a time when people don’t adhere to schedules and as a result they don’t make Pantry donations as frequently as they do during the school year. The tapering off of donations occurs annually simultaneous to the increase in need. When the school year ends and children are home for the summer, families who relied on school lunch to feed their children suddenly have to provide three meals a day. As a result, the needs of the Food Pantry increase dramatically during the summer months. We ask that residents keep the Pantry in mind and consider making a donation at this time. Our current needs are always available at the Township Office and on our website. At present, we are looking for donations of the items below. The Township is grateful to residents for their generosity and ongoing support for this critical program. Anyone interested in running a food drive may contact Community Services Administrator Brian Leverenz at bleverenz@newtriertownship.com or 847.446.8203. • tissues, paper towels, and napkins • laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, dish soap, and dishwasher soap • aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and baggies • shampoo, conditioners, and mouthwash (large sizes) • olive oil and cooking oil • cookies, crackers, granola bars, nuts, raisins, and other healthy snacks • juices and juice boxes (smaller sizes) • canned spaghetti and ravioli • salad dressing and mayonnaise • condiments and sauces
